Conquer Your TBR #2

As of this post, I have 629 Books I Want To Read on goodreads.com! Now it’s time to be ruthless and figure out why 🤷‍♀️ I put it on the list and if I still want to read it. 🤔

Lia at Lost In A Story started this challenge back in 2016! If you want to play along here are the rules:

• Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf

• Sort by date added/reverse order

• Take the first 5 (or 10) books

• Read the synopsis of the books

• Decide to keep it or let it go

The House of Mirth, Edith Wharton

Date Added: April 2012

Thoughts: Maybe I was trying to add some classics? Sorry Lily Bart, you have to go. I’m barely able to read books published in the last five years let alone 1905!

Verdict: Remove 🚫

Traveling Mercies: Some Thoughts On Faith by Anne Lamont

Date Added: April 2012

Thoughts: I was torn on this one. Many good reviews about a woman overcoming a difficult past and finding God. Unfortunately more reviews stated it was rambling and annoying. She refers to God as she?! Nope not for me.

Verdict: Remove 🚫

Unholy Night, Seth Grahame-Smith

Date Added: May 2012

Thoughts: Hahaha I forgot about this one. This author wrote Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter which was really cleverly done (even for someone that dislikes gore). One of the reviews said this author can “pretzel-bend” history like no other. In this dark revision, The Three Wise Men of the nativity story are actually infamous thieves! This one stays.

Verdict: Keep ✅

Breaking Twig by Deborah Epperson

Date Added: August 2012

Thoughts: I can’t remember why I added this story, but whoa. After reading this synopsis, I definitely need to read this one. The mother-daughter relationship could be difficult to read. It sounds dark and harsh but the reviews say it’s also hopeful.

Verdict: Keep ✅

The Best of Times, Penny Vincenzi

Date Added: October 2012

Thoughts: I’m pretty sure I’ve checked this one out from the library, maybe even more than once but at 768 pages, I’m thinking this one will have to go. I’ve read More Than You Know and An Absolute Scandal and gave them 4 stars. What’s your favorite Penny book?

Verdict: Remove 🚫

I’m curious to know if you disagree with any of my choices?

Or agree?

Any of these I should give a second chance to?

Tell me in the comments!

  1. I need to do this myself. I don’t quite have 600 books on the TBR, but it’s increased enough these past few months that I feel the need to go through them and let some go. I read Seth Graham-Smith’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which I found loads of fun, but haven’t bothered to pick up anything else by him. Unholy Night sounds like it would be a riot. Hope you enjoy both the books you decided to keep!
