I finished BEARTOWN by Fredrik Backman a few days ago and am still thinking about it.
By the author of A Man Called Ove, this title was published in 2017 and the sequel US AGAINST YOU came out this year.
To say I was changed by this book would be an understatement. To say this is a book about hockey would be an injustice. This is a book about marriage, family, loyalty and teamwork.
The small town life of Beartown is perfectly captured and the characters themselves were honest and raw and real.
The players and their families and coaches came alive through Mr. Backman’s beautiful, sensitive and realistic characterizations. This author doesn’t take the easy road or the predictable path. The characters don’t apologize for who they are. You get to know them so intimately, flaws and all.
I’m not sure Kevin and Benji and Amat and David and Peter and Sune and Maya and Ana will ever leave me.
Have you read Beartown? Have you read others by this author? Thoughts?
